Pang Dong Lai has become one of the most influential names in Chinese retail. Widely admired for its customer-first philosophy, exceptional service standards, employee care and distinctive approach to commercial management, the company has earned a reputation that extends far beyond its home market.

Its influence is not defined solely by business performance. Pang Dong Lai has inspired retailers and consumers across China to reconsider what a department store can represent: a trusted part of the community, a rewarding workplace and a space where quality, experience and human connection come together.
Learning from Europe’s Leading Retailers
Over the course of our collaboration, I have accompanied members of Pang Dong Lai’s department-store team on several study trips to Europe.
In Paris, we visited landmark destinations including Galeries Lafayette and Le Bon Marché, exploring their approaches to brand curation, customer experience, visual merchandising and luxury retail management.

We also organised discussions with former Hermès executives and Chanel executives, giving the team opportunities to exchange ideas with experienced leaders from the international luxury industry.
What impressed me most was the team’s genuine enthusiasm for learning. They approached every visit and conversation with openness, curiosity and a strong desire to translate international insights into ideas suited to the Chinese market.
Consulting for the Next Generation of Retail
Together with a group of French experts, I formed a consulting team to support Pang Dong Lai’s future retail development.

Our work includes advising on the positioning of a new multi-brand concept and buyer-led store, developing its brand portfolio and supporting brand recruitment and commercial partnerships.
We are also providing consulting services for Dream City, Pang Dong Lai’s new 570,000-square-metre commercial development. For a project of this scale, establishing a clear identity and introducing the right mix of brands, experiences and retail concepts will be essential.
Our objective is not simply to reproduce European retail models in China. It is to combine international expertise with Pang Dong Lai’s unique culture, customer understanding and commitment to service—creating concepts that are both globally connected and locally meaningful.
An Invitation to International Brands
As this work continues, we hope to connect with more international designer labels, independent brands and distinctive niche concepts.
We are especially interested in brands with a strong creative identity, authentic craftsmanship, compelling stories and the potential to build meaningful relationships with Chinese consumers.
For international brands seeking thoughtful, long-term opportunities in China, Pang Dong Lai represents an exceptional retail partner with powerful consumer trust and a remarkable willingness to learn, innovate and evolve.
FASHIONREAL looks forward to building more bridges between Pang Dong Lai and the global fashion community—and to introducing a new generation of original brands and retail experiences to the Chinese market.
